Meet Terah

Terah Tsuyako Summers is a biracial, Japanese-American writer and a program coordinator for a Hawai‘i-based mental health advocacy organization. Her unpublished manuscript, More Than Quiet, was selected for the inaugural Spotify x JED Impact Award, an initiative co-sponsored by The Black List, Spotify, and The Jed Foundation (JED), which recognizes exceptional depictions of mental health in fiction. Her writing is deeply informed by lived experience and a commitment to centering youth voices—especially those navigating mental health. She hopes that her stories, written with heart and hope, can inspire those who have ever felt lost in their own minds.

Terah was born and raised in Hawaiʻi and is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Hawai‘i Chapter. When not writing or reading, you can find her at the beach with her husband and dog.
